Bring me out Some Presents! es la traducción escultórica de mi último proyecto: Happy Birthday to me! el cual vengo se ha ido desarrollando durante el 2018 - 2019. Este proyecto, se construye en torno a la idea del cumpleaños y presenta a personajes rodeados de elementos asociados a la citada celebración (helados, piruletas, chuches, palomitas, tartas, refrescos), pero que, sin embargo, si miráramos más allá, encontraríamos representaciones alegóricas continuas a personajes cuya referencia trasciende hasta el misticismo griego y los rituales a la diosa Artemis pasando por la idiosincrasia ya adaptada al siglo XXI y nuestra sociedad actual.
Bring me out Some Presents! is the sculptural translation of my latest project: Happy Birthday to me! which I have been developing during 2018 - 2019. This project is built around the idea of birthdays and shows characters surrounded by elements associated with the aforementioned ritual (ice creams, lollipops, sweets, popcorn, cakes, soft drinks) however, if we look further, we would find continuous allegorical representations of characters whose reference transcends to Greek mysticism and rituals to the goddess Artemis, passing through the idiosyncrasies already adapted to the 21st century and our current society.
La idea de celebrar la natalidad del individuo aterra a muchos y emociona a otros tantos. Anteriormente los cristianos no celebraban la natalidad propia ni la de sus descendientes, se consideraba una celebración pagana ya que se idolatraba al yo, y constituía una vulneración de la adoración de un solo dios. “La celebración del aniversario del nacimiento de una persona era usual entre los antiguos, pero era algo que originalmente los cristianos desaprobaba,” señala William S. Walsh en su libro Curiosities of Popular Costums.
Celebrar el propio nacimiento se asemejaba a otras celebraciones en honor a estatuas de toros, cabras y dioses paganos inventados por el ser humano. Recogemos la herencia griega y romana que glorificaba a los símbolos que hoy en día son de lo más cotidiano durante la celebración del cumpleaños: la tarta con velas, y el misticismo que ello esconde, ¿Pedimos un deseo?
The thought, of celebrating the birth of the one self terrifies many and excites many others. Previously, Christians did not celebrate their own birth or that of their descendants, it was considered a pagan celebration since the self was idolized, and it constituted a violation of the worship of a single god. “Celebrating the anniversary of a person's birth was common among the ancients, but it was something originally disapproved of by Christians,” notes William S. Walsh in his book Curiosities of Popular Costumes.
Celebrating one's own birth resembled other celebrations honouring statues of bulls, goats, and human-invented pagan gods. We collect the Greek and Roman heritage that glorified the symbols that today are most common during the birthday celebration: the cake with candles, and the mysticism that it hides. Este es el primer proyecto en el que mezclo la Realidad Aumentada como medio de producción e investigación plástico / visual en la que a parte de lo lúdico, la aplicación de la tecnología forme parte de la pieza como material intangible en un entorno digital que interactúa con nuestro espacio físico y real.
This is the first project in which I mix Augmented Reality as a means of plastic / visual production and research in which, apart from the playful part of it, the application of technology forms part of the piece as an intangible material in a digital environment that interacts with our physical and real space.
